January 2005 Ministry Momentum Dear Friends and Partners of HCAW, We are excited to share the January Ministry Momentum with you. His Church at Work has been blessed to see many churches committed to helping working believers focus their relational energy at work toward God's agenda. This is critical considering that our work lives are 50% + of our waking hours and the place where we have the majority of our relationship influence. HCAW is continuing to help the Body of Christ become truly relevant to a modern culture bent on finding meaning outside of a relationship with Jesus Christ. HCAW is a movement of like-minded churches committed to an Ephesians 4:12 discipleship process - equipping their members to walk well with God at work and effectively expand Kingdom influence to their coworkers and places of work assignment. We are excited to report many significant developments in our progress of empowering churches for WorkLife Ministry around the country. We have detailed a few below this month for your review. The Church is making sustainable progress in this area. We desire to express our sincere appreciation for your partnership and prayers. Thank you from our entire staff. Here to serve you and your church, _________________________________________________________________ For several months, Pat McWhorter has had a growing desire to help his fellow Frazer members learn how to truly live out their faith in their workplaces. Earlier this year, he attended a workshop where he learned that there was an organization already in place to consult and develop ministries with churches to do just that. The organization, His Church at Work, is now empowering Frazer to launch a congregation-wide WorkLife ministry, which will kick off in January. A number of special events will be held to launch this new ministry during January with sermons in both traditional and contemporary services that will emphasize the importance of work in the life of Christians. On Sunday, Jan. 16, the choir presented "Experiencing God: The Musical," based on the Bible study by nationally known author Henry Blackaby. The choir originally presented this musical in 2002. The program will serve as a prelude to an appearance by Blackaby himself on Sunday evening, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m. "Henry Blackaby will be here to deliver the vision for this ministry," said Pat, who drove to Atlanta along with Contemporary Worship Minister John Schmidt, to persuade Blackaby, whose schedule normally keeps him booked up for years, to come to Frazer. Blackaby will commission Frazer's workplace ministers during the Sunday evening service in the Main Sanctuary. "I would love to fill the sanctuary," said Pat. "The main thing is we want to equip and empower people to live their faith every day. My vision is that we can cover the entire city of Montgomery with this ministry." Blackaby and Billy Graham both have stated that they believe the next big move of God will be in the workplace. "God is marshalling his people in the workplace as never before in history," Blackaby has said. "God is up to something." Click here to view a short video of Dr. Blackaby explaining the importance of WorkLife Ministry. "When God sent His own Son ... couldn't God have sent His Son into any home He chose? What was the vocation of Jesus' father?" Blackaby said. "Ahh, you mean the God of the Universe sent His son into the workplace of a carpenter? What was Jesus known as? A carpenter's son and a carpenter. Isn't it amazing that the Son of God chose to be a layman, chose to be a businessman. Was that accidental? Folks, God never does anything accidentally." With the launching of this ministry, Frazer joins a growing number of churches across America who are discovering the desire of their members to have support to integrate their faith during their daily work. The His Church at Work process has been very successful at other churches, including 22,000-member Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY, which has engaged 6,000 adult members.
At Frazer, a worklife support center (www.frazeratwork.org) will provide a collection of ready-to-use tools that offers encouragement and support to help people grow spiritually for life in their workplace. The tools and ministry will be balanced with training, practical strategies, resources, and community building for the workplace. John and Bob Ewell, minister of discipleship, had long been aware of the need to equip, encourage, affirm and commission church members in their WorkLife from their own experience in the workplace prior to entering full-time ministry and from their understanding that church is not just a gathering place but a sending place. Frazer is following up the launch by presenting the 13-week course Your Work Matters to God. "Back on 9-11-2001, we launched Authentic Manhood, and more than 200 men showed up at 6 a.m.," Bob explained. "The format for Your Work Matters to God is similar. Large group presentation will be followed by small group discussion of the concepts where men will form friendships and figure out how to apply biblical concepts to their life and work." Your Work Matters to God will start on Jan. 25 at 6 a.m. Beginning Wednesday, March 2, at 6 p.m., there will be a session for men and women. An important application to this WorkLife ministry, Frazer is also embracing the mission of the Military Ministry Network to train, equip, and commission members as "military missionaries." Military Ministry Coordinator Col. Terry Williams says, "Whether we work as a banker, salesman, waitress, or a military member, God has placed all of us where we are at to spread the word about his kingdom and to be missionaries for Jesus Christ."
